How NBT Bank Helps Protect You

Your security is our priority

Fraud threats are constantly evolving, which is why NBT Bank continually enhances the tools we use to help protect your personal and financial information.

From secure login processes to ongoing account monitoring, our team uses multiple layers of protection made to help keep your information safe.

Secure login & password protection

When you enroll in NBT Online Banker, you'll receive a unique login ID that helps protect access to your accounts. To enhance your security:

  • Use a unique login ID and password
  • Choose passwords that aren't used for other accounts
  • Update passwords regularlyWatch for spelling errors, unusual links, or suspicious sender addresses
  • Avoid passwords that are easy to guessNever share passwords, security codes, or account information with someone who contacts you unexpectedly

For your protection, NBT Bank may ask for your Online Banker login ID to verify your identity, but we will never ask for your password.

Automatic session timeouts

To help prevent unauthorized access, NBT Online Banker automatically logs users out after a period of inactivity. This added safeguard helps protect your information if your computer or mobile device is left unattended.

For maximum security, always log out manually when you finish your banking session.

Additional identity verification

NBT Bank uses One-Time PIN authentication as an added layer of security for certain transactions and sensitive account activities. By sending a verification code directly to your device, we can help confirm that it's really you accessing your account.

Encryption & secure connections

Your online and mobile banking sessions are encrypted from the moment information leaves your device until it reaches NBT Bank systems.

When banking online, look for:

  • A closed lock icon in your browser
  • A web address that begins with https://

These indicators show that encryption is being used to help secure your information.

Ongoing fraud monitoring

Security doesn't stop at login. NBT Bank uses a layered security approach that includes ongoing monitoring of account activity.

If activity appears unusual, additional security measures may be triggered, including:

  • Temporary restrictions on online account access
  • Additional verification requirements
  • Limits on certain transactions

These measures are intended to help safeguard your accounts and personal information from unauthorized activity.

Debit card protection

If debit card transactions appear unusual or occur outside your normal geographic area, NBT Bank may restrict transactions to help prevent unauthorized use.

If you notice unauthorized activity, contact NBT Customer Service or your local NBT Bank office as soon as possible.

Protect yourself and your information

While NBT Bank uses multiple layers of security to help protect your accounts, there are important steps you can take as well. Help safeguard your personal and financial information by keeping your devices and software updated, using strong and unique passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication when available, and monitoring your accounts regularly for unusual activity. When banking online or on mobile devices, verify website addresses before signing in, use caution on public Wi-Fi networks, and avoid sharing sensitive personal information online. Staying informed about emerging scams and cybersecurity threats can help you recognize potential risks and take action to better protect yourself from fraud and identity theft.

Stay vigilant. Stay protected.

While NBT Bank works hard to help secure your accounts and personal information, security is most effective when we work together. Taking simple precautions and staying informed can go a long way toward helping protect you from fraud.
